Canadian author Tema Frank explored this concept, outlining four elements that make an organization a good place for a woman to work. Her four elements apply equally well in an international context:
- Organizations that are good employers for women provide opportunities for advancement and career development: These firms have stopped making career-limiting assumptions, such as women do not want to return to work after childbirth and women are unwilling to travel in their jobs: Many firms believe women do not want to travel in their jobs. As a result, firms often overlook women for an international posting or short-term assignment abroad. A recent study of MBA graduates in the United States, however, showed little difference between male and female preference for international work.
