First, there are those who can make the immediate transition to full salaried professional international employment. These workers are most likely early retirees, or may have lost their job. In either case, they want to arrange a work placement abroad as one of their final career assignments. They probably are internationally experienced and have been planning this transition.

Second, and the most popular category of 50+ workers going abroad, is those who have already retired and are now looking for an exciting and meaningful international experience. These people are often financially secure, highly skilled professionals. Others who may be less skilled and not financially stable are seeking an international experience where travel and accommodation costs are covered and there may be a stipend provided.
